{"id":39,"date":"2009-05-02T21:30:46","date_gmt":"2009-05-03T04:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/?p=39"},"modified":"2009-05-02T21:31:57","modified_gmt":"2009-05-03T04:31:57","slug":"brief-book-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/?p=39","title":{"rendered":"brief book reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Adopting after Infertility<\/em> by Patricia Irwin Johnston<br \/>\nThis was one of the best books we&#8217;ve read about our situation.\u00a0 It walks you through some of the difficult emotions that accompany the loss of the assumption of pregnancy and birth, and then talks about how to decide whether adoption is right for your family and then how to do that.<\/p>\n<p><em>Secret Thoughts of an Adoptive Mother<\/em> by Jana Wolff<br \/>\nA short read that follows one woman&#8217;s story about adopting transracially in an open adoption situation.\u00a0 I think the author has become pretty well-known in adoption circles.\u00a0 I keep seeing her name popping up in magazines and blogs.<\/p>\n<p><em>Adoption is a Family Affair:\u00a0 What Friends and Family Must Know<\/em> by Patricia Irwin Johnston<br \/>\nAlthough this book is mainly aimed at the parents of adopting couples, it would be a helpful read to anyone wanting to know a little bit about what the prospective\u00a0 adoptive parents are going through and the best ways to support them through the process.<\/p>\n<p><em>In Their Own Voices:\u00a0 Transracial Adoptees tell their stories<\/em><br \/>\nI haven&#8217;t gotten all the way through this one, but the theme seems to be that there is no &#8220;typical&#8221;
