{"id":351,"date":"2010-04-05T16:39:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-05T23:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/?p=351"},"modified":"2010-04-05T16:39:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-05T23:39:00","slug":"after-easter-eye-candy-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/?p=351","title":{"rendered":"after Easter eye-candy for you!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"cool baby dude\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_PTNu-ATLX5k\/S7NXQ-HkhEI\/AAAAAAAABJU\/cWspO_1pbGo\/s512\/_IGP7825.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"lookin at you, kid\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_PTNu-ATLX5k\/S7oreCe1mGI\/AAAAAAAABKw\/Km0qR-CrJpg\/s720\/_IGP7860.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"a closer look\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_PTNu-ATLX5k\/S7orffKCFQI\/AAAAAAAABK4\/2uhI5KleY3Y\/s720\/_IGP7869.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>for those of you who have requested more photos, here&#8217;s a few.\u00a0 We&#8217;re really enjoying getting to know baby dude.\u00a0 my parents came up for a week and did tons of laundry and dish\/bottle washing (thanks, mom!) and other projects around the house that sorely needed to be done and were likely to continue being ignored for the next little while (thanks, dad!) and i think they loved the chance to get to hold and love on baby dude.<\/p>\n<p>we also now have an entire week of just mom at home under our belts while dad&#8217;s back at work and all of the relatives are gone and we&#8217;re figuring out the rhythms of our days and nights and learning to interpret his noises (and smells).\u00a0 we&#8217;re figuring out how to get around town together (we walked to the post office all wrapped up in the moby sling and figured out how to deliver a big box to the UPS store while also carrying a baby car seat) and just reveling in new parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>favorite books so far:\u00a0 <em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Everywhere Babies<\/em> by Susan Meyers and Marla Frazee&#8211;has beautiful rhythm, meaning and illustrations that portray so many different kinds of families!\u00a0 Plus, later when attention spans get shorter, we can just read the big words on the page and skip the smaller ones.<\/p>\n<p><em>Haiku Baby <\/em>by Betsy E. Snyder&#8211;I bought this one awhile back at Frugal Muse intending to gift it to someone probably, but the illustrations had me hooked and I decided to keep it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m so glad!\u00a0 I still love the illustrations and the little haikus on each page are a gentle read for little baby ears.\u00a0 My favorite is the one called &#8220;Flower:&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In tickly-toe grass;<\/p>\n<p>A buttercup offers up<\/p>\n<p>Yellow nose kisses&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Snoozers<\/em> by Sandra Boynton&#8211;this one came to us in a box of used  books from a friend.\u00a0 I just assumed it was a collection of other  Boynton favorites, but it&#8217;s not!\u00a0 It&#8217;s all original stuff and is  hilarious.\u00a0 Each 2-page spread is a different &#8220;chapter&#8221; which might be  nice for skipping around later in life and also has wonderful rhythm and  humor (but then again, don&#8217;t all of her books?\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t that why we LOVE  them?).<\/p>\n<p>The funny thing is that at work, I generally am not all that fond of rhyming books (for the preschool set I often find them distracting, especially when the meter is off or when the author tries so hard to make the rhyme that it&#8217;s difficult to understand what they&#8217;re trying to say) and I steer clear of &#8220;gentle reads&#8221; preferring funny ones, but that&#8217;s because I&#8217;ve always believed that gentle reads are better for &#8220;lap-reading&#8221; than for storytimes.\u00a0 It&#8217;s nice to finally have the opportunity to appreciate them for their intended purpose!\u00a0 Baby Dude may not understand the humor in these books yet and he may not appreciate the pictures, but I know that he loves listening to the lilting rhythms and the sound of our voices.\u00a0 I love reading to this boy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>for those of you who have requested more photos, here&#8217;s a few.\u00a0 We&#8217;re really enjoying getting to know baby dude.\u00a0 my parents came up for a week and did tons of laundry and dish\/bottle washing (thanks, mom!) and other projects around the house that sorely needed to be done and were likely to continue being [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-351","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/351","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=351"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/351\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":353,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/351\/revisions\/353"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=351"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=351"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/riftraft.jayandcarissa.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=351"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
